I was born in Peru and moved to the US in 2014 after completing medical school, seeking to further my education in a country known for its advanced research and top-quality medical education. Being a first-generation immigrant has profoundly shaped my understanding of mental health. I've learned firsthand how life changes can impact mental well-being, but I firmly believe in our ability to adapt to new situations with the right support—compassion and warmth can truly make a difference.
As a Peruvian, I've always valued the benefits of alternative and complementary medicine, particularly when guided by scientific research. My psychiatry residency in Queens, NYC, exposed me to diverse cultures where these practices are deeply integrated and effective. This experience fueled my passion for incorporating these ancient techniques into my treatment plans.
My interests within psychiatry are deeply rooted in personal experiences. Growing up with a sister diagnosed with OCD drew me to the field of psychiatry. Witnessing firsthand the impact this disorder had on her life shaped my understanding and deepened my empathy for patients facing similar challenges. Additionally, experiencing postpartum anxiety after the birth of my first child provided deeper insight into the hormonal impacts on mental health during significant life changes. These personal experiences have greatly influenced my dedication to women's mental health, enhancing my ability to connect with and support patients on similar mental health journeys.
